Like the Father I: Stop Sinning

The basic truth here is that children of God live like God. Specifically, John is digging deeper into his argument against those who would say that it doesn’t matter how you live. God loves us so much that he made us his children, and he is growing us up, rearing us to understand his ways and live like him. The culmination of this will be when we see him face to face and in an instant are like him, because we see him as he really is (3:2). So once again, if a person says that you can be saved through Jesus without your life moving AWAY from sin, it reveals that this person is in actuality NOT a child of God, but a child of the devil. This definitely goes along with week 2 (God is light), and I’ll try to teach carefully through the idea of NOT sinning after we follow Christ. When you put it together with the rest of the book (and the Bible) it’s clear that we still have struggles as Christians. The real issue is do we think it’s okay or do we desire to change. But, again, the baseline truth is that our lives WILL change when we become children of God, because we will want to be just like our daddy.
